Logitech Announces Touch-Sensing Mouse

From X-bit Labs: Logitech has unveiled a mouse that can not only sense movements, but also to sense gestures. The Logitech Touch Mouse M600 features a touch surface that lets users to navigate intuitively with fingers, just like on smartphones and tablets.

“People are growing accustomed to using fingertip gestures to navigate on their smartphones and tablets. In fact, for many people these gestures have become second nature. The Logitech Touch Mouse M600 reflects this evolution in how we interact with the digital world and extends to the computer what have become natural, intuitive motions,” said Todd Walker, brand manager for Logitech.

The Touch Mouse M600 features a high-precision laser as well as 2.40GHz wireless connection technology. Instead of traditional wheel and buttons, the mouse has touch-sensitive surface that allows to scroll, swipe, click/tap and do other operations that customers are familiar with on PCs and on smartphones/tablets. Exact specifications of the mouse are not currently available.

The idea to use touch-sensing surface on mice is generally a nice idea as it can enable innovative ways to control the PC. Unfortunately, since Windows operating system does not support gestures similar to those supported by devices powered by Apple iOS or Google Android, the potential of touch gestures will not be realized fully, at lease initially.
