Verizon Wireless Experiences Second Data Outage This Month

From DailyTech: Following in Research-In-Motion's (RIMs) tracks, though not as large in scale, Verizon has confirmed its second data outage this month throughout the United States.

Many U.S. users started posting on Verizon support forums and jumped to Twitter last night to share stories of data loss. From a glance at posters' locations, the data has affected states like New York, California, Illinois, North Carolina, New Jersey, Florida, Ohio and many in between.

"Not getting any data in Port Townsend, WA," said one user in Verizon's forums. "I have tested on both a Galaxy Nexus and a Droid RAZR. Have done the whole rebooting thing, still nothing. Thankfully I'm at home and have wifi."

Another user from Denver, Colorado mentioned losing service at 1 a.m. and reporting no change at 5 a.m.

Many 4G users have been able to restore their data service by switching into CDMA-only mode, but access remains relatively poor. Several 3G users have had issues as well, according to CNET, but the outage is mainly affecting the 4G LTE network.

Verizon hasn't addressed the outage in a press release yet, but The Verge spoke to a Verizon support representative, who confirmed that there is an outage. Other Verizon forum posters who spoke with Verizon reps as well added that it is uncertain when data service will be restored.

"Just spoke with VZW customer support representative," said a commenter in the Verizon forums. "As of 6:28 a.m. Eastern time, they are confirming a nationwide outage affecting all 4G phones, and to expect little to no network connectivity. There is no ETA for resolution, of course."
